Tsang Fan-Kwong
TSANG Fan-Kwong, graduated from the Medical School of the University of Hong Kong and became a psychiatrist. He spent his childhood in a remote Hong Kong village, began observing the relationship between humans and nature at an early age. His first artistic attempt—a drawing of a ploughing ox in primary school—ended traumatically when classmates mocked his work, causing him to avoid art classes thereafter. This experience redirected his creative energy into writing, establishing him as a columnist and published author.
Due to training needs, he was in London for a few occasions in his 20s. He travelled a bit in Europe and had vast opportunities viewing various modern art formats. Around 30 years old, he no longer able to withhold his desire to paint. Fate or luck, he met a great art teacher, Mr. Gaylord Chan, who inspired him in the road of painting.
In the past 30 odd years, he has created more than 200 paintings. In his abstract work, he studied the relationship between human and nature. He is also sensitive to changes in the world. Many of his work has been visual diary of his own and shared experience. He also uses his work to make fun of things, cheering up this boring world.
He has been actively taking part in the Artmatch Group Exhibition since 1996 and the Hong Kong Visual Art Society Exhibition since 2007. His artwork has been shown in Macau, Kuala Lumpur, Fukuoka, Guangzhou, Daejeon and Manila. Being member of the Artmatch group, he initiated a project “Art on Wheels” outreach program, bringing art to over 20 community centers, including psychiatric hospitals, youth centers and secondary schools.
