Hung Man-Po

Hung Man-Po, a lifelong Hong Konger deeply rooted in Sham Shui Po district. While working in commercial graphic design for years, he persistently sought artistic expression to convey personal sentiments and social critique, reigniting his creative passion. Over a decade ago, he began carrying a compact “point-and-shoot” camera through Hong Kong’s streets, capturing serendipitous encounters that reconnected him with his childhood neighbourhood and revealed the profound importance of community bonds. During this period, he rediscovered his long-dormant painting practice, gradually developing his distinctive “Hong Kong Ukiyo-e” style that celebrates the city’s intimate neighbourhood stories through his design projects.

In recent years, he has focused on independent artistic creations and illustration exhibitions. His notable projects include “A Hong Kong Story Like Mine’” documenting stories of Hong Kong Artisans; “Listening to Hong Kong” memorializing disappeared brands; “Wandering Light” exploring Sham Shui Po’s alleys, and “Tale of Two Cities” comparing Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. He frequently collaborates with young local artisans on handbound books and Risograph prints.

His design and illustration works have earned international recognition including Germany’s iF Design Award, Taiwan’s Golden Pin Design Award, and Taiwan International Graphic Design Award, establishing his unique position at the intersection of commercial design and grassroots artistic expression.
