Beauty in Handcraft Wares
Humans collected leaves and bark to hold foods and water before wooden ware was invented; pottery dates back to 26,000 years ago, and glass products have been in production for over 500 years; these materials are still widely used in modern dinnerware. As artisans fulfilled the demands of people who wanted things that matched their taste, many dinnerwares are more than ordinary daily-used objects but art.
Beauty in Handcraft Wares showcases glassware by KC Wong, woodenware by White Puppy Workshop, and a selection of antique Chinese porcelain from between the Tang and late Qing periods from Mr. Suen Siu-Wah’s private collection. The public could look closely at the works of ancient and modern artisans to explore the beauty in every detail and rethink the differences between things for daily use and arts.

Glass sculpturist Kwok-Chung Wong’s curiosity about celestial bodies has led to the creation of glass art to explore the universe. The exhibited glass sketches are from the theme of exploring Orion and the microcosm.
White Puppy Workshop showcase a selection of woodenware made from various types of wood, including commonly used basswood and black walnut, to more special purple core wood, green sandalwood, ebony, and even rarer Laos rosewood, Burmese rosewood, and Burmese golden camphor.
Antique collector, Mr. Siu-Wah Suen specially picked thirty exhibits from his broad antique porcelain collection to share with all of us. Those are not museum-grade nor from any official kilns, but they allow us to understand and compare details from different dynasties, kilns, styles, production techniques, etc.
We prepared two Artist Talk seminars for people interested in making or collecting dinnerware to meet with the glass artist KC Wong and woodcraft artisan Dickens.
